25 September 2017, Monday

On September 25, in Tashkent, speaking at a business forum with participation of representatives of Tatarstan and Uzbekistan businesses, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan is interested in increasing the volume and range of exports to Uzbekistan.

Opening the forum, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Gulomzhon Ibragimov noted that consistent building and all-round strengthening of friendly relations with Russia is one of the promising areas of Uzbekistan's foreign policy.

"Our country attaches great importance to the development of interregional cooperation with Russia. Following the state visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Moscow in April this year an intergovernmental agreement on interregional cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia was signed. This document has laid a solid foundation for further intensifying trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between regions of the two countries," Ibragimov said.

He stressed that Russia has traditionally been the largest trading partner of Uzbekistan. The trade turnover with Russia amounted to 4.2 billion US dollars last year. For eight months of the current year, it has increased by 15.5 per cent. "At the same time, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Tatarstan has made 50 million US dollars. We have agreed with Rustam Minnikhanov that today's business forum with the participation of representatives of solid companies will give a good impetus for a significant increase in economic indicators. We should admit that we have potential and reserves for a multiple increase in bilateral trade volumes,” Ibragimov said.

Speaking at the event, Minnikhanov thanked leaders of Russia and Uzbekistan for supporting the development of cooperation between regions of the two countries.

"We focus on the development of cooperation with Uzbekistan as part of relations between Russia and Uzbekistan and will be glad to expand mutually beneficial relations," he said.

According to Minnikhanov, the level of cooperation in the field of economy does not reflect the available potential. He stressed that Tatarstan is interested in expanding exports of engineering products and various types of equipment, including compressor and refrigeration equipment, medical equipment, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and other products to Uzbekistan .
