8 November 2017, Wednesday

On November 8, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov is taking part in a session of the regional State Council to consider issues that remained open during the 33rd meeting of the Council that was held on the 26th of October, 2017.

In particular, the 33rd meeting has been adjourned because of the issue of teaching and studying the state languages of the republic. Executive authorities and Prosecutor’s Office of the republic were not able to answer questions members of the State Council asked them. People’s deputies were concerned that the current situation has split the society by language and nationality. Moreover, along with Prosecutor's Office inspections, schools began to make amendments to the curricula and the educational process. The question arose regarding the reduction of teachers of the Tatar language and literature.

The meeting is broadcast online.
