8 November 2017, Wednesday

On November 8, speaking at the 33rd meeting of the regional State Council, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that it was decided that none of teachers of the Tatar language will not be fired, and the number of teachers of the Russian language will be increased in Tatarstan.

At today’s meeting, people’s deputies discussed issues related to making some amendments to certain resolutions of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan and teaching and studying the state languages of the republic.

Commenting on the situation, Minnikhanov noted that a road map has been developed in the republic to solve the issue of studying the Tatar language. Teachers of the Tatar language will be either retrained or be offered other ways of their further employment. He continued that schools should stay calm, adding that no illegal steps will be taken.

"We are waiting for new federal standards. The Tatar language will be taught two hours a week," Tatarstan President said. “We must adhere to the Constitution of the Russian Federation," Minnikhanov stressed.

Minnikhanov asked to postpone the 33rd meeting of the regional State Council again until all the procedures are approved. Chairman of the State Council of the republic Farid Mukhametshin and people’s deputies supported his proposal.
