Chief State Veterinary Officer of the republic reports on the results of work for the current year

On November 11, at a traditional regional video-conference held by President of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov at Tatarstan Government House, Chief State Veterinary Officer of the republic Almaz Khisamutdinov reported on the results of work of the regional veterinary service for 2017.

He said that the epizootic situation in the Russian Federation and the Volga Federal District is very unstable at the moment. Such diseases as African swine fever, foot and mouth disease, nodular dermatitis and avian influenza are of particular concern, the speaker added.

In 2017, 14 cases of avian influenza, 61 cases of African swine fever, 42 cases of nodular dermatitis, and 5 cases of foot and mouth disease were recorded in the regions of the Volga Federal District.

Khisamutdinov said that this year a new exotic disease - nodular dermatitis, which had previously been recorded only in warm countries, has been registered in the Ulyanovsk, Samara, Saratov regions and the Republic of Bashkortostan. Infectious disease affects subcutaneous adipose and connective tissue, lymphatic system, as well as respiratory organs of the cattle. The regional leadership allocated funds for vaccination of the entire cattle stock.

The speaker reminded that this year for the first time in the republic an outbreak of avian influenza was reported at the poultry farm in Laishevo municipal region. The total number of the poultry population (528,000 heads) had to be eliminated. "I want to ask regional heads and veterinary services of poultry farms to strictly fulfill all the requirements for the prevention of avian influenza," Chief State Veterinary Officer of the republic said.

Speaking about the upgrade of technical facilities, Khisamutdinov added that 93 buildings belonging to the veterinary service have been repaired in five years.  He added that 26 of them have been repaired this year. A total of 126 veterinary field units have been built in all municipal regions of the republic in three years.  Until the end of this year, the regional veterinary agency will purchase 48 mobile veterinary units, which are outfitted with all necessary equipment.

“The veterinary service provides overall support in the preparation, organization and holding of the WorldSkills Championship. Every year, qualifying tours are conducted among students of three technical colleges and a veterinary academy. Preparations for the regional championship scheduled for November 27-29 are underway,” Khisamutdinov concluded.

Prime Minister of the republic Alexey Pesoshin took part in the meeting.
