On November 11, at a traditional regional meeting at Tatarstan Government House, President of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov required checking safety of gas supply at residential facilities.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Civil Defence and Emergency Situations of the republic Rafis Khabibullin reminded that the apartment collapse happened after an apparent gas explosion in Izhevsk on November 9. Seven people died because of the tragedy. The minister noted that 41 rescuers from Tatarstan are working in Izhevsk as well.

“Due to high level of gasification this problem is a current problem in the republic. Unfortunately, such accidents happened in Tatarstan , in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, and Zelenodolsk,” he said.

Nine cases of carbon monoxide poisoning happened in the republic last year. Three people died and 27 were injured.

Khabibullin asked the regional Ministry of Transport to check the machinery fitted with gas equipment.

Tatarstan President gave an errand to heads of municipalities to carry out preventive measures to prevent such tragic accidents, and explanatory work with the population about safe use of gas equipment.

Prime Minister of the republic Alexey Pesoshin took part in the meeting.
