Mintimer Shaimiev holds meeting on the implementation of the project aimed at reviving historical and cultural monuments of Bolgar and Sviyazhsk

On November 24, at the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Revival Regional Foundation Mintimer Shaimiev held a meeting on the implementation of the Cultural Heritage of Tatarstan: Island Town of Sviyazhsk and Ancient Town of Bolgar project. 

At the beginning of the meeting, Shaimiev noted that the next year is the year when works on the implementation of the approved federal programme will be completed. "The most part of work has been done honourably. Everyone is admiring the results. Both sites have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The work on the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is underway, and the Bolgar Islamic Academy has already been built and is working. However, there is still a lot of work to do. We need to continue our activity in the same manner next year,” he stressed.

Executive Director of the Revival Regional Foundation, Deputy Chairman of the regional State Council Tatyana Larionova told participants of the meeting about the progress made in the implementation of the Cultural Heritage of Tatarstan: Island-Town of Sviyazhsk and Ancient Town of Bolgar project in 2017 and presented the list of activities to be done under the project next year.

In particular, she said that architectural, archeological and scientific research of historical monuments, work on creating new museum expositions and expanding museum collections, restoring and conserving museum items, as well as improving territories will continue in Bolgar and Sviyazhsk.

Regional Deputy Minister of Culture Persova added that the creation of an integrated security system is another important task for both sites.

Summing up, Shaimiev proposed working out a plan for organizing visits to Bolgar and Sviyazhsk not only for tourists and pilgrims, guests of cultural, sports, scientific and educational events taking place in Tatarstan, but for residents of the republic as well.
