Rustam Minnikhanov at the third Russian-British Business Forum: We are interested in attracting British business and capital to Tatarstan

On November 29, delivering his welcoming speech at the opening of the third Russian-British Business Forum at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan is interested in attracting British business, technology and investments to the region.

Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko, State Secretary - Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Oleg Fomichev, Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the UK Boris Abramov are taking part in the forum.

The forum began with a plenary session “Brexit as a source for transforming economic dialogue between Russia and Great Britain”.

Speaking at the forum, Minnikhanov noted that Tatarstan as one of the developed regions of Russia has a high share in the imports of machinery and equipment from Britain.

Welcoming the participants and guests of the third Russian-British Business Forum, Minnikhanov expressed his gratitude to the Embassy and the Russian Trade Representative Office, to all Russian and British partners for organizing the event.

"Thank you for your interest in Tatarstan and for the opportunity to present the economic and investment potential of our republic in London," Minnikhanov said. "We are interested in attracting British business and capital to Tatarstan and will be glad to expand mutually beneficial relations and are ready to provide overall support."

“Being one of the leading and industrially developed regions of Russia, Tatarstan could attract British companies with its opportunities available in such areas as power-engineering and petrochemical industry,  automotive industry and production of auto components, machine-building and aircraft construction, new materials, innovative development, IT and other high technology, agro-industrial complex, engineering, medicine, Islamic banking, transport and logistics, small and medium-sized businesses,” Tatarstan President said.

He also reminded that Tatarstan is an oil producing and refining region with developed petrochemical industry. Cars, airplanes, helicopters, vessels, engineering products are made in the republic. "We export about 50 per cent of our industrial goods. At the same time, we are in the top five regions for the production of agricultural products," Minnikhanov noted. “Tatarstan is an innovative region, which has ranked first in the Russian national rating of the investment climate for the third year in a row," he continued.

"We want that British companies choose our republic as a starting platform to work in the Russian market. We can offer you ready-to-use infrastructure sites, all the conditions and tax benefits. Summing up, I would like to wish the forum participants successful work. I hope that this event will contribute to the normalization of Russian-British relations," Minnikhanov stressed.
