6 December 2017, Wednesday

On December 6, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov arrived on a working visit in Moscow to take part in a meeting on the results of the Safe and Quality Roads priority projects achieved in 2017 held by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Before the meeting, Minnikhanov had visited the exposition of the Transport of Russia Forum held at the Moscow’s Gostiny Dvor as part of the Transport Week, an annual business event, which includes a series of nationwide and international activities for an open discussion of the most pressing transport issues and the strengthening of mutual understanding between representatives of the government authorities and the business community.

While visiting the Tatarstan’s specialized stand, Minnikhanov was particularly interested in a bicycle made in Russia. Head of Almetyevsk municipal region Airat Khayrullin told him in more detail about its model and the whole project aimed at developing space for cycling and forming bicycle culture on the example of the city of Almetyevsk.

Minister of Transport and Road of the republic Lenar Safin briefly reported on the implementation of road programmes to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who visited the regional stand at the exhibition today.

Minnikhanov demonstrated Medvedev the model of bicycles at the stand. He also told him about the project implemented in Almetyevsk and that bicycles available for rent there are in high demand among local citizens and are equipped with the Glonass system. Using a special smart phone application, a user can see bicycles parked to use them as part of the rental system.

Speaking at a meeting on the results of the Safe and Quality priority project achieved in 2017, Medvedev stressed that the forum dedicated to the development of the Russian transport industry is a good opportunity to talk about the results of the Safe and Quality priority project.

"This project is absolutely universal. It unites a huge number of regions, since this problem is topical nationwide. The exhibition at the annual forum demonstrates the development of the industry, the largest transport construction projects, including roads, achievements in the field of transport facilities, railways, motorways, reconstruction and construction of airports. These are really large and landmark projects, the whole country is watching,” Medvedev said. “The state of roads, the organization of traffic, the illumination of crossroads, the road marking, the equipment of transitions are no less important issues. In this regard, the situation depends on a particular region, on the investments that have been made for the development of the road network recently," he continued.
