6 May 2019, Monday

On May 6, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting of the Organizing Committee in charge of preparation and holding of the 74th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov noted that more than 38,000 war veterans are living in Tatarstan today. Over the past four years, their number has decreased by two times, he added. “Targeted work to solve urgent problems of veterans is becoming even more important. Work is underway to provide overall medical and social services, to improve housing conditions, to systematize social support measures, and to organize cultural, leisure and commemorative events for veterans,” Tatarstan President emphasized.

He also noted that next year the country will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory in World War II. "Activities to celebrate this historical date should be a matter of priority for all government branches, authorities, and municipalities of the republic, a point of honour for every citizen of Tatarstan," Minnikhanov stressed.

Tatarstan President noted that solemn events, including the Ribbon of Saint George and the Immortal Regiment movements, will be organized in the republic these days. The Red Carnation movement has started today.

“We should support civil initiatives without imposing them on society. I am sure that residents and guests of the republic will take part in these events with true pleasure and an open heart,” he emphasized.

State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev, Chairman of the State Council of the republic Farid Mukhametshin, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union Boris Kuznetsov, Hero of Socialist Labor, scientist, designer and public figure Ildus Mostiukov, Hero of Russia Gazinur Khairullin, Chairman of the Regional Public Organization of Veterans (the Disabled) "Union of Veterans of the Republic of Tatarstan", Major General Akhat Yulashev, representatives of ministries and agencies of the republic took part in the meeting.
