First Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Nigmatullin discusses the construction of a thermal waste disposal plant with the group of activists

On December 19, at their meeting with the group of activists at the Government House of the republic, First Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Rustam Nigmatullin, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Tatarstan Aleksander Shadrikov, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin and other officials discussed the issues of building a complex for the thermal disposal of waste in Zelenodolsk region of the republic.

During the meeting, activists expressed concern about the safety of the new plant for public health, noted the need to develop separate collection of garbage and reduce the use of disposable tableware. A proposal was also voiced to develop and implement educational programmes in kindergartens and schools to educate children in the culture of waste management.

Nigmatullin reminded that the project of the new complex received the positive conclusion of Main Directorate of State Expertise, which indicates its environmental safety. He reminded that separate collection of garbage is already actively developing in the republic. For this purpose, special container platforms are installed, he went on to say. Activists were also invited to jointly participate in projects related to environmental education for children.

The meeting also discussed the territorial scheme of waste management. Nigmatullin offered activists to send their questions and comments for consideration by experts.

He added that such meetings will be held on a regular basis and instructed representatives of relevant ministries and agencies to conduct active outreach activities with the public, and to talk in detail about the new project.
