Rustam Minnikhanov at his meeting with Tatars living in Irkutsk region: In the context of globalization, it will be difficult to maintain our national identity without such unindifferent people like you

On August 26, during his working visit to Irkutsk, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met activists of the local Tatar community.

The Governor of Irkutsk region Sergey Levchenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the republic, Chairman of the national council “Milli Shura” Vasil Shaikhraziev and Aide to Tatarstan President Radik Gimatdinov took part in the meeting.

In his opening speech Levchenko said that there are six officially registered Tatar public organizations in the region. Branches of the Tatar-Bashkir cultural centre are operating in many cities and districts of the region. "The residents of the region always celebrate the ancient Tatar national holiday Sabantuy together. In their turn, representatives of the diaspora take an active part in the social and political life of Irkutsk region," the Governor said.

He stressed that the government of Irkutsk region provides organizational and financial support to the Tatar community in the implementation of socially significant projects.

Then Minnikhanov was told about the life of the local Tatars, festivals and events organized by the Tatar community, as well as other projects aimed at maintaining ties with the Tatars of Irkutsk region.

Minnikhanov expressed his gratitude to Levchenko for the support of the Tatars living in the region and creation of all necessary conditions for them to preserve the language, culture and traditions.

"We are very happy to meet you," Tatarstan President addressed the representatives of the local Tatar community. “We really need such active people like you. In the context of globalization, it is very difficult to maintain our national identity without such unindifferent people. Each of you has things to worry about, things to do, duties to fulfil, but in spite of this, you find opportunities and time for social initiatives," he said.
