23 October 2017, Monday

On October 23, during his working visit to the USA, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited Rice University, a private research university located in Houston, Texas.

The university was opened in 1912 after the murder of its namesake William Marsh Rice, who invested all his fortune to establish the university.

Rice’ campus is located in a heavily wooden tract of land, covering an area of 1.15 square meters. Five streets demarcate the campus. The pride of the university is its "green zone", a kind of arboretum with 4,000 trees grown.

Rice's academics are organized into eight schools, six of which offer courses of study at the graduate and undergraduate level, with two more being primarily focused on graduate education. There are 40 undergraduate degree programmes, 51 masters programmes, and 29 doctoral programmes.

Today, at the Texas – Tatarstan business forum, an agreement was signed between Rice University and the Almetyevsk State Petroleum Institute.

During his visit to the university Minnikhanov was shown around the campus and was told about the history of the educational facility.

At a meeting held afterwards representatives of Rice University briefly told Minnikhanov and members of the Tatarstan delegation about their vision for further cooperation with Tatarstan and the Almetyevsk State Petroleum Institute in particular.

In his turn Minnikhanov confirmed that Tatarstan is interested in cooperation with the university. According to him, it is important to organize joint work in the area of research and development, the exchange of students and teachers. He also invited faculty and university management to visit Tatarstan and Kazan. "I hope to see you in Kazan," Minnikhanov said.
