Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin takes part in annual awards ceremony “Sportsman of the Year”

On December 18, at the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism in Kazan, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in an annual awards ceremony “Sportsman of the Year”.

The awards were handed out in six categories: Mass Physical Education and Sport, Sports Public Organizations, Playing and Non-Olympic Sports, Mass Media, Olympic Expectations of Tatarstan, and Special Awards.

Pesoshin awarded a figure-skater Evgeniya Tarasova and a bicycle racer Ilnur Zakarin, who were honoured with the Sportsman of the Year title in Tatarstan in 2017.

FISU First Vice President Oleg Matytsin, who took part in the ceremony, awarded Svetlana Demina and Gumyar Nurullin, who won the nomination “Coach of the Year” in 2017.

Zenit Voleyball Club became the best team of Tatarstan in team sports in 2017.

Tatarstan Minister of Youth and Sport Vladimir Leonov said after the ceremony that despite the absence of the Russian flag and anthem at the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, the national sportsmen will always be the Russian athletes.
