On November 13, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the 55th video-conference of the Supervisory Board of the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects held by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Vitaly Mutko.

In his welcoming speech, Mutko noted that Tatarstan hosted a number of major events in 2017, including matches of the FIFA Confederations Cup, the Red Bull Air Race, the International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VI) and others. Moreover, the republic will host matches of the FIFA World Cup in 2018, WorldSkills Championship in 2019, and the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in 2022, he added.

"We appreciate the efforts of the Directorate and the republic regarding the organization and holding of major sporting events, as well as developing sports in general," Mutko stressed. “Kazan has become a recognized sports center. You are entrusted with holding the most serious events and people come here with pleasure. "

In his turn, Minnikhanov thanked Mutko and the Russian Ministry of Sport for the support rendered to the republic during the implementation of various projects.

“The FIFA World Cup is the main sporting event to be held next year. The experience and opportunities of the Directorate will allow us to hold this event at the highest level," Tatarstan President said. “Preparation for the WorldSkills Championship is underway. The Directorate bears the main burden," he continued.

Minnikhanov added that representatives of Tatarstan had learned from the experience of holding WorldSkills Competitions in Abu Dhabi.

Then the meeting discussed the results of the activities of the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects in 2017 and set tasks for the near future.
