On November 26, during his working visit to Abu-Dhabi, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the seventh meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Emirati Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation held by Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Abdullah Al Nahyan.
Opening the meeting, Manturov stressed that the United Arab Emirates is one of the leading foreign trade and economic partners of Russia in the Persian Gulf region. "We appreciate our trustful and constructive dialogue, the tone of which is set by regular and productive contacts between the leaders of our countries," he said.
The minister stressed that the consistent expansion of mutually beneficial trade, economic, industrial, investment, humanitarian and cultural ties fully meets the long-term interests of the two countries and serves to maintain peace and stability at regional and global levels.
"In our opinion, a very important decision was made to facilitate the entry of Russian citizens to the Emirates, which will contribute to the growth of tourist activity. In our turn, we are also interested in increasing the flow of tourists from your country to Russia,” Manturov said.
He noted that scientific, technical and industrial cooperation between civilian industry enterprises is of particular importance in strengthening bilateral cooperation. "Oil and gas industry, in which our countries are historically world leaders, is one of the most important areas to develop the cooperation between Russia and the UAE. We already have a number of ongoing joint projects. The joint mastering of environmentally safe technology for offshore production, in-depth processing and transportation of hydrocarbons has a great potential for the development," Manturov stressed.
According to Manturov, successful steps are being taken in the sphere of food security. For example, work on expanding the list of Russian enterprises that have the right to export livestock products to the UAE market is underway. To date, ten enterprises have already received the appropriate permission.
The minister also suggested considering the possibility of forming an appropriate infrastructure in the Emirates for trans-shipment, storage and processing of grain - a large grain hub to ensure a stable supply of Russian grain to the Middle East.
Manturov noted that there are good prospects for cooperation in the field of the electronic industry. Leaders in this industrial sphere in Russia are ready to participate in projects to provide air traffic, communication and navigation with automated facilities, to create a unified integrated security system for airports and airfields, as well as promising large-scale projects to develop a unified air traffic management system.
“We have great expectations in terms of the development of a number of breakthrough technological trends, which will become very large global markets in the future. Therefore, our country is now actively working out the most promising solutions in the field of unmanned ground, aviation, maritime transport, additive technologies and digital economy," the minister added.
At the end of the meeting, a number of bilateral agreements were signed.
