Rustam Minnikhanov discusses prospects for cooperation between Tatarstan and AstraZeneca Company

On November 29, at their meeting in the capital of Great Britain, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and senior executives of AstraZeneca Company discussed opportunities and prospects for cooperation between Tatarstan and the company.

AstraZeneca is one of the world’s leaders in the field of pharmaceutical industry. It produces innovative medicines for the treatment and prevention of various diseases, including cardiovascular, oncological, respiratory, inflammatory diseases. The company has been operating in Russia since 1999. It has expanded and diversified its presence in Russia recently.

Moreover, the company is one of the largest investors in scientific and research activities in Russia.

Minnikhanov noted Tatarstan's interest in cooperation with the company both in terms of the localization of its production facilities in the region and the implementation of joint projects in the field of health care.

The representatives of the company briefed Minnikhanov about their activities in Russia, including the principles of an open innovative approach they apply in their work. Besides, they said that the AstraZeneca Company contributes to the Pharma 2020 federal programme. The company opened a plant for the production of innovative medicines in the Kaluga region.

As for its cooperation with Tatarstan, the company has joint research projects with the Kazan State Medical Unversity, the oncological dispensary of Kazan and other regional institutions.

During the meeting, Minnikhanov noted that there is an opportunity for cooperation with Tatkhimpharmpreparaty Pharmaceuticals Manufacturer in terms of integrating production in Kazan and conducting joint research.

The parties agreed that the representatives of AstraZeneca Company will visit Tatarstan early in 2018 for a detailed study of cooperation issues.

Moreover, a memorandum of intent was signed between the AstraZeneca Company and Tatarstan Investment Development Agency during the Russian-British Business Forum.
