Kazan to host World rowing championship among students

World championship in academic rowing among students will be held in September 2012 in Kazan. Organization of this event has been discussed today at a meeting between the Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and CEO of International Federation of Rowing Associations (FISA) Matt Smith.
The meeting was held at the Kazan Kremlin with participation of Tatarstan minister of youth affairs, sport and tourism Rafis Burganov, Director of ANO “Executive office of Universiade – 2013” Vladimir Leonov, President of Russian student sports union Oleg Matytsin, CEO of Russian university rowing association Yulia Anikeeva.
The decision to hold World championship in academic rowing among students in September 2012 was made at the meeting. The competitions will be held after Olympic Games in London thus the best sportsmen of the world may take part in the event. An organizing committee of the forthcoming competitions is expected to be organized in the nearest future.
In the course of meeting Rustam Minnikhanov told Matt Smith about development of academic rowing in Tatarstan and preparation for Universiade – 2013.
We remind that academic rowing was included in the program of Kazan Universiade. The competitions will take place in a new rowing centre, one of the most up-to-date rowing complexes in Europe.
On 13 April in his congratulatory address on the occasion of the Maecenas and Benefactor Day, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin congratulated residents of the republic with the event and wrote: "Tatarstan has always been known for its generous and kind-hearted people who are ready to help the needy and support important social, cultural and educational projects. On 12 April in his address to residents of the republic, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin congratulated them with the Space Exploration Day and said: “April 12, 1961 has forever been inscribed into the world history as the day of triumph of the Soviet science and engineering thought. The flight of Yuriy Gagarin opened the way to the stars for the humankind and demonstrated to the whole world the might of our country.
On 4 April , speaking at a closing ceremony of the XX Russian Venture Forum held at the Kazan Expo Exhibition Center, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin said that the Russian Venture Forum has confirmed its status of the point of attraction of technological development leaders.
The Forum created a unified scientific, technological and investment space where scientific ideas are transformed into competitive products, and startups gain access to capital and markets. Its business programme is organically integrated into the regional and federal agenda for achieving technological sovereignty and leadership of Russia, he said.
On 1 April Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and Russian Minister of Healthcare Mikhail Murashko introduced Ayrat Farrakhov, who was appointed the Acting Rector of Kazan State Medical University (KSMU) to its staff.
In his speech Mikhail Murashko emphasized that today KSMU is rightfully considered one of the most respected in the country and said:”Ayrat (Zakievich) has been officially appointed the Acting Rector and I am sure that under his leadership the University will maintain the positions it has achieved and, of course, will continue its development.”
