On January 22, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in a meeting of the regional Ministry of Culture to sum up the results of work in 2017 and set tasks for 2018.

Making a keynote report at the meeting, Minister of Culture of the republic Airat Sibagatullin said in particular that in 2017, as many as 7,500 various cultural events were held in the republic, with about 10 million people having taken part in them.

State cultural and art institutions earned 728.1 million roubles for the reported period, including 674.6 million roubles from providing paid services, which is 129 per cent of the target plan.

Airat Sibagatullin said that one of the most priority areas of work is the state protection of cultural heritage sites. In 2017, much work on the registration of cultural heritage facilities in the Unified State Register of Objects of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of the Russian Federation was made and today there are 1625 regional objects there. The main task is to put all the newly identified sites under state protection until 2020.

Speaking at the meeting, Pesoshin noted that a lot of significant cultural events were held in the republic last year, including the inscription of the Dormition Cathedral and the monastery of the island-town of Sviyazhsk into the UNESCO World Heritage List, the opening of the Bolgar Islamic Academy, the implementation of a large-scale federal project to create a multimedia historical park "Russia is My History”.

According to the Prime Minister, thanks to sustained funding from the regional and federal budgets in 2017, all priority projects identified by the leadership received sufficient government financial support.

Pesoshin stressed that today it is necessary to support creative projects for children and young people and the implementation of educational programmes by cultural institutions.

Pesoshin also noted the training of highly qualified personnel, the development of the volunteer movement in the sphere of culture, the preservation and use of cultural heritage as the priority areas of work.
