“Match of stars” of Student Basketball Association takes place in Kazan

“Match of stars” of Student Basketball Association which took place at Kazan “Basket hall” ended in the win of “West” team. Honorable guests, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Vice-premier of RF Government Dmitry Rogozin, RF Minister of justice Aleksandr Konovalov and other political and sport figures watched the game from the stands.

Two teams – “East” and “West” with the best members of Student Basketball Association traditionally played in the 5th “Match of stars”.

Before starting the game Vice-premier of RF Government Dmitry Rogozin and Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had addressed participants and audience with welcoming speech. Dmitry Rogozin conveyed greetings on behalf of Chairman of RF Government Vladimir Putin and personally welcomed players wishing good luck.

A lot of sport event are being held in Kazan on the threshold of Universiade Rustam Minnikhanov noted. “But today’s event is especially important as we see students showing another attitude to student sport. When Russia won the right to host Universiade it gave new impetus to development of student sport, and this match is one more step towards development of sport student movement”, Tatarstan President believes.

A special guest, seven-time NBA champion Robert Orri welcomed participants of “Match of stars”. A famous basketball player said he obtained much experience at the university and became a professional.

Leaders of Student Basketball Association, - President, Minister of justice Aleksandr Konovalov and Vice-president, Olympic champion Sergei Belov wished good luck to the players.

An unofficial game between the teams of honorable guests was held during the long break. In particular, Vice-premier of RF Government Dmitry Rogozin, President of Russian biathlon Federation Mikhail Prokhorov, FISU Vice-president Oleg Matytsin, basketball players famous in the past Robert Orri, Sergei Panov, Igor Kudelin, UNICS head coach Evgeny Pashutin appeared on “Basket hall” playground.

“Match of stars” resulted in the win of “West” team with a score of 107:92. Honorable guests granted awards to the best players.
