Aleksey Pesoshin: We need to find new forms of involvement of young people in anti-corruption activities

7 December 2018, Friday

On December 7, at the IT Park in Kazan, speaking at a regional youth anti-corruption forum dedicated to the International Anti-Corruption Day, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin said that it is necessary to find new forms of involvement of young people in anti-corruption activities.

According to him, corruption has a direct negative impact on the relationship between the government and society, on the state of the economy, competitiveness, political stability, and public security of the country. “Therefore, it is very important to take all measures to minimize corruption risks,” Pesoshin stressed.

He noted that this issue is also relevant for Tatarstan. The republic is aimed at attracting and implementing large-scale investment projects, increasing production efficiency, developing business activity, and expanding its presence in commodity markets. The branches of government are open and transparent in the republic and have common desire to ensure a decent standard of living for the population, the Prime Minister added.

“At the same time, we understand that negative corruption factors hinder the progress. To counter these factors, the whole range of anti-corruption policy instruments is used, aimed at creating an atmosphere of intolerance towards corruption in society,” Pesoshin said.

He noted that the younger generation plays an important role in this area. “We need to intensify the mutual dialogue between power structures and youth. It is important to expand the format of involvement of public youth organizations in the anti-corruption policy.  Working out proposals aimed at minimizing corruption risks in all spheres of life should be one of the goals at today's forum. We need to find new forms of involvement of young people in this work,” the Prime Minister concluded.

This year, the Regional Youth Anti-Corruption Forum has been held for the fifth time with about 250 people, including senior officials of the republic, people’s deputies of the State Council of the republic, heads and teachers of higher educational institutions, representatives of business, as well as representatives of various youth public organizations taking part in the event.

The current forum is devoted to topical issues on combating corruption in various sectors of the economy and the competences of regional state bodies concerning young citizens.
