Aleksey Pesoshin at the first international Sichuan forum: Tatarstan, as one of the regions of Russia, attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with China
On October 15, speaking at the first International Sichuan Forum of the Heads of Twin Regions and Twin Cities under the Belt and Road Initiative, which is held in the city of Chengdu, the People’s Republic of China, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin said that Tatarstan attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with China as part of relations between China and Russia.
The forum is held to deepen ties with the twin regions and twin cities, and to develop bilateral practical cooperation.
According to Pesoshin, the bilateral foreign trade turnover between China and Tatarstan amounted to 628.7 million US dollars in 2018.
“Official and business circles from China visit our republic. Representatives of Tatarstan get acquainted with the provinces and study best practices during visits to your country,” Pesoshin went on to say. “A trade and economic representative office of the Republic of Tatarstan operates in Beijing, and the Consulate General of China has been opened in Kazan.”
The Prime Minister of the republic noted the investment project to set up the Haier RUS Industrial Park with a total investment of 59 billion roubles and the creation of 5,000 jobs among the projects successfully implemented between Tatarstan and China.
Today, it is planned to locate factories for the production of washing machines, TV sets, refrigerators, freezing and electric kitchen equipment in this industrial park. The opening of the industrial park and the factory for the production of washing machines took place on August 28, 2019.
Also, the Ammoniy Mineral Fertilizer Factory was built in Tatarstan with the participation of the Chinese National Chemical Engineering Corporation.
Due to the setting up of a working group on the development of cooperation between the regions of the Volga Federal District and the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River (“Volga-Yangtze”), Tatarstan is establishing successful bilateral cooperation with a number of Chinese provinces, including the Sichuan province.
“This year, the Sichuan Golden―Elephant Sincerity Chemical Company, which is considering the possibility of locating a facility to produce ammonia, methanol, urea and melamine in the the Alabuga Special Economic Zone visited Tatarstan,” Pesoshin said. “A number of important documents were signed between the Republic of Tatarstan and Sichuan Province, and bilateral visits of various levels and formats took place.”
The Prime Minister of Tatarstan briefed about the main areas of socio-economic development of the republic. In particular, he noted that Tatarstan is one of the most economically developed regions of Russia, which has a powerful industrial production, a favorable investment climate, and high scientific potential.
Tatarstan is traditionally among the Russian regions - leaders in agricultural production, he continued.
“Over the past years, Tatarstan has been one of the most attractive regions of Russia in terms of investment. We are actively working on the development of modern industrial sites of various specialization, industrial and innovative parks,” Pesoshin said.
He also emphasized that Tatarstan has great experience in holding major international events.
Summing up, he thanked Governor of Sichuan Province Yin Li and the Sichuan Provincial Government for the trust and support provided to the development of cooperation between Tatarstan and Sichuan.
According to the Prime Minister of Tatarstan, the high level of organization of the forum offers good opportunities for developing joint business projects and expanding contacts.
