Minister of Health of Tatarstan Marat Sadykov: The pneumonia mortality rate is average in Tatarstan

On May 8, speaking at a regional meeting at the Government House of the republic, Minister of Health of Tatarstan Marat Sadykov said that according to recent reports, as many as 3,495 people died from all causes of death in Tatarstan in April 2020.

He gave comparison data for April 2018 and April 2019: a total of 3,969 and 3,548 people died from all causes of death in the republic in April 2018 and April 2019 accordingly.

According to the minister, “mobilization in connection with a new coronavirus infection has not radically affected the general situation regarding the accessibility of medical care.” He specified that a number of European countries (Italy, Spain) did not record any overall mortality increases.

At the same time, he reminded that the pneumonia mortality rate is average. Thus, in April 2020, the death rate from pneumonia made 38 people (April 2018 - 36 people, April 2019 - 36 people).

“The mobilization of all resources and the introduced self-isolation regime allowed us to keep the situation under control,” Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said. “A lot of work has been done in this area. If we continue to comply with all sanitary requirements and norms, then the fight against a new coronavirus infection will be under control. All our medical facilities are ready to provide overall assistance to the sick people. But I repeat once again that it is important to wear protective masks, gloves, and maintain a social distance,” he continued.

Sadykov said that in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, the role of information is important. He urged not to rise to provocations, which only destabilizes the situation and also invited people who anonymously spread information on new cases of coronavirus infection to contact the  Ministry of Health of the republic directly to obtain objective and accurate data.
