Rustam Minnikhanov: Professional activity of the Department of Federal Security Service guarantees peace in republic

“Tatarstan leadership depends on further efficient cooperation with the RT Department of Federal Security Service in terms of ensuring order and stability in republic,” President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said at a final session of the RT Department of Federal Security Service today.

The Tatarstan President noted that last year employees of the RT Department of Federal Security Service and other law enforcement bodies ensured safety upon holding political, public and sport international and Russian events. Certain results have been achieved in combating economic crimes, suppression of drug trafficking, and corruption management.

The RT President stressed that according to main indicators of social and economic development, Tatarstan is among leading regions in Russia.

“Unfortunately, intensively developing economy attracts attention of not only investors, but foreign special services and radical extremist organisations,” Rustam Minnikhanov said. He noted that activity of radical extremist groups aimed at destabilization of public and political situation required mobilization of all forces and structures. Tatarstan state power and law enforcement bodies took measures on counteracting terrorism and religious extremism.

The RT Department of Federal Security Service revealed and suppressed activity of 6 radical extremist groups that planned terrorist attacks in republic. Terrorists who committed terrorist attacks on July, 19, 2012 against leaders of the RT Muslim Spiritual Board were found and disposed.

The Tatarstan President said that the RT Department of Federal Security Service faced a number of serious tasks. Issues connected with suppression of terrorism and extremism are priority ones.

Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized a great role of the RT Department of Federal Security Service in ensuring safety of the forthcoming Universiade.
Other urgent problems mentioned by the RT President are counteraction to illegal migration, illegal arms and drugs traffic, and struggle against economic crimes.

Rustam Minnikhanov thanked leadership of the Russian Federal Security Service for support and efficient cooperation.
