Mintimer Shaimiev meets with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova

On June 5 at their meeting in Paris Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev and UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova discussed global value of cultural and historical monuments – the Kazan Kremlin, ancient Bolgar and island-town of Sviyazhsk.
Ms Bokova thanked Tatarstan for overall dialogue of cultures, high level of responsibility for cultural and historical heritage in the republic. She noted that restoration of monuments is carried out taking into consideration main articles of the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage and other international regulatory documents.
Irina Bokova appreciated actions and measures taken by Tatarstan leadership on studying the experience of the best Tatarstan, Russian and international experts. She pointed out great number of material and spiritual artifacts of the rich Tatarstan history of 10th-early 20th centuries noting that archeological and historical materials of Bolgar and Sviyazhsk are now kept in Moscow museums, St.Petersburg State Hermitage Museum, museum collections of the Volga region and world museums in England, Finland, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
Mintimer Shaimiev, in his turn, focused on great work being performed by Tatarstan scientists on studying, preservation, restoration and promotion of historical and cultural monuments.
On 31 January, speaking at a meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and all municipality regions taking part in it via videoconference, the regional Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector Damir Shaydullin reported that capital overhaul of nine school in eight municipalities of the republic has started.
On 28 January Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in an extended joint meeting of the Main Directorate of Russian Emergencies Ministry for Tatarstan and a collegium of the Ministry for Civil Defense, Emergency Management and Natural Disaster Response of the republic which summarized results of work of the territorial subsystem of the unified state system for the prevention and elimination of emergency situations of the republic in 2025 and set tasks for 2026.
In his keyword report the Head of the Main Directorate Irek Kadamov informed that there were 3 758 man-caused fires in the republic which killed 128 people and injured 177. Through joint efforts, we have managed to reduce the number of man-caused fires by more than 10%, the number of injured by 12 per cent, however the number of killed increased by 13 people, he said.
On 28 January at a ceremony held as a part of a meeting summarizing results of work of the territorial subsystem of the unified state system for the prevention and elimination of emergency situations of the republic in 2025 and setting tasks for 2026, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and the Head of the Main Directorate of Russian Emergencies Ministry for Tatarstan Irek Kadamov handed in keys for 24 new fire and rescue vehicles purchased at the expense of the regional budget to units of the Directorate and Tatarstan Emergencies Ministry.
On 27 January, speaking at an extended meeting of the Tatarstan Prosecutor’s Office which summarized results of work of the Office for 2025 and set tasks for strengthening law and order in 2026 and which was held with participation of Russian Deputy General Prosecutor Nikoly Shishkin and the Chief Federal Inspector for the republic Viktor Demidov, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin thanked employees of the Office for good work and high professionalism.
