On 8 February at a briefing held in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan Minister of Sports Vladimir Leonov told about large sports events to be held in the republic in 2022.
He said that in August Kazan will host the FINA world junior competition with participation of about 850 athletes from 120 countries. “We have undertaken the organization of this competition as we understand that it is these athletes who may come with their teams to the world swimming championship to be held in Kazan in 2025,” he added.
About 1 000 athletes from all over Russia will take part in the All-Russia street Games to be held from 14 to 18 July in six kinds of sports, namely basketball, cycling, roller blading, skateboarding, brake dance and workout, Leonov said.
On 12-14 August Kazan will host the Rugby World Cup among students teams with participation of eight male and eight female teams, as we have one of the best infrastructure in Russia to play rugby, the Minister informed.
Leonov said that the World Swimming Cup which was planned to be held in August this year can be postponed and the whole calendar of swimming competitions has been shifted.
Nevertheless Kazan will host the short course swimming world championship from 17 to 23 December with participation of more than 1 200 athletes from 180 countries, the FINA World Cup series in synchronous swimming and springboard diving also to be held in December, the Minister concluded.
