Tatarstan President congratulates citizens on Sabantui

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated citizens on Sabantui.

“Dear Tatarstaners!

Let me congratulate you on Sabantui holiday on behalf of Tatarstan State Council and Government. It is one of the most favourite holidays for Tatar people. This holiday embodies ideals of peace, good and mutual respect. It is the place where good friends meet in a festive atmosphere feeling the spirit of folk and sport games.

At the "plough's feast" (the meaning of Sabantui) we honour foremost people in agriculture whose selfless labour lays the foundation of rich harvest.

Very soon Kazan will be the world’s sport student capital. We will host the 27th World Summer Universiade. The traditional Sabantui competition - belt wrestling “kuresh” will be held for the first time. Sabantui in Kazan will be a striking event of Universiade cultural programme. It is a unique opportunity to show the whole world our sports spirit, wealth and identity of our culture.

I am sure that today’s holiday will leave unforgettable impression on you, give positive emotions and give impetus to preservation and development of national traditions and customs.
