On 18 June Russian Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Maksut Shadayev, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Roman Shaykhutdinov, members of the Russian Federation Council and representatives of IT companies from Russia, India, Latin America and South-East Asia took part in a business breakfast “IT-leadership – alliance of Russia and the developing world” held on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. Participants of the breakfast discussed possibility of Russia winning a leadership in ITC and the development of IT-industry state support measures.
The parties also discussed existing possibilities of cooperation between Russia and developing countries as well as arising limitations and administrative barriers.
Speaking at the event, Roman Shaykhutdinov said: “Today the task of the country in the IT industry is ensuring the technological independence and the data sovereignty. To prevent Russia’s lagging behind because of the isolation from the world scientific and technological community, it is necessary to support domestic developers, develop international scientific and technological cooperation and actively promote our development in the foreign developing markets. “
“We see the prospects in attracting foreign students from developing countries to Russian IT-universities, such as Innopolis. This is a great chance for us not only to attract young gifted people but also to use education to raise the reputation of the country,” he concluded.
Summarizing the results of the business-breakfast, Maksud Shadayev said it is important to increase export of Russian IT-solutions and services to friendly countries such as the Middle East, South-East Asia, Latin America and Africa and proposed to work in the following directions: infrastructure of financial support for export of Russian IT solutions, infrastructure of the Russian IT solutions sales, infrastructure of payments for the use of Russian IT solutions and the infrastructure of international interaction and cooperation in open source and cyber security.
