Mintimer Shaimiev and Claude-Louis Gallien open chess competitions within the framework of 27th World Summer Students Games

On July 9 Tatarstan State Counsellor, Senior Advisor to President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Mintimer Shaimiev and President of the International University Sports Federation Claude-Louis Gallien took part in the opening ceremony of chess competitions held within the framework of 27th World Summer Students Games.
The chess competitions are held in Kazan Equestrian Complex. More than 100 women players from 46 countries took part in the first round of competitions.
The right to make the first move was given to First Tatarstan President.
This discipline was included in the event’s program as an optional sport for the first time at the 2011 Summer Universiade.
The men’s and women’s teams will compete for 3 sets of medals.
In his welcoming speech Mintimer Shaimiev noted that chess competitions are now held within the framework of World Universiades thanks to joint efforts and it was a wise decision, because children begin playing chess at an early age and achieve success during school time.
Claude-Louis Gallien said that he was very glad to take part in the competitions, because chess was not simple sport, where a player should master both physical and mental skills. “I want to thank Mintimer Shaimiev for his contribution to development of world student sports, because it was he who initiated Universiade Games in Kazan,” he said.
Press-conference with participation of Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev, President of the International University Sports Federation Claude-Louis Gallien, President of Tatarstan Chess Federation Gennady Zakharov, Director of Chess Competitions at Universiade 2013 Alexander Tkachev and outstanding Russian chess player, Chess Olympiad winner Alice Gallyamova took place after the opening ceremony.
On May 26, speaking at a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic held in a videoconference mode with participation of all municipal regions of Tatarstan and focused on events scheduled for June 1, International Children’s Day, as well as the implementation of the “Summer in Tatarstan” programme, Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva appealed that parents should closely supervise their children during recreational activities near water in order to prevent accidents.
On 18 May ay the CIPR conference in Nizhniy Nogorod the Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Roman Shaykhutdinov, the Rector of the Innopolis University Aleksandr Gasnikpov and the Vice-rector of the University Yevgeny Bobrov will take part at round tables session of the conference.
Experts will discuss the role of Tatarstan and Innopolis as one of the key technological centers of the country and how regional innovative platforms help to solve tasks of the whole Russian industry. A special emphasis will be placed on the digital transformation of the oil and gas sector and how large clusters and scientific and technological centers are becoming drivers of industry change.
On 16 May, speaking at a meeting in the Government House of the republic held by the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin with participation of the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the republic Marat Zyabbarov reported that the sowing of spring crops is in full swing in the republic with 1m 38 thousand hectares or 61 per cent of the planned have been sown.
On May 14, on the sidelines of the XVII International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic World: KazanForum”, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and Head of the Federal Service for Accreditation Dmitry Volvach signed an agreement on interaction and cooperation in the development of the halal industry.
