World Aquatics Championship flag arrives in Kazan from Barcelona

On August 5 Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a solemn event dated to arrival of World Aquatics Championship flag in Kazan from Barcelona that was held in Aquatics Palace (Kazan).

Presenters at the event were Mikhail Volkonadsky and three-time Olympic champion in synchronous swimming Maria Kiseleva. A three-time Olympic champion, winner of four gold medals at Barcelona World Aquatics Championship 2013 Svetlana Romashina took part in the event.

Welcoming the guests, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin said that World Aquatics Championship is the most popular competition. About 3,5 bln spectators watched Barcelona World Aquatics Championship.

Ilsur Metshin handed the flag over to Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, who addressed the audience: “For 5 years we have been preparing for Universiade. Today we have a new goal – to host World Aquatics Championship in two years.”

Rustam Minnikhanov added that during preparation for Universiade infrastructure and sports venues were constructed, and professional team was prepared. It was announced that 16th World Aquatics Championship will be held in Kazan on July 17 – August 2 in 2015.

Thousands of athletes from 200 countries will compete for medals in swimming, open water swimming, platform diving, high diving, synchronous swimming and water polo.
