Mintimer Shaimiev, ICOMOS and UNESCO experts discuss areas of joint cooperation

On September 2 Tatarstan State Counsellor,Chairman of the Board of Guardians of the Regional Foundation “Revival” Mintimer Shaimiev met with ICOMOS experts Ms Britta Rudolf and Mr Willem Willems, UNESCO Deputy Director General on culture Mr Francesko Bandarin and Special Advisor to UNESCO Director General Mr Munir Bushenaki.
To the point, ICOMOS and UNESCO experts arrived in Kazan on August 30 and looked around Bolgar reserve museum within two days. The main purpose of their visit is to assist Tatarstan to prepare new portfolio for nomination “Bolgar historical and archeological complex” for its resubmission to the World Heritage Committee in 2014, which recognized the world universal value of the ancient town of Bolgar during its first session in June this year. The application was sent for referral to advisory bodies of the World Heritage Committee – International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
Ms Britta Rudolf and Mr Willem Willems noted that after two days of work in Bolgar they better realized the value of historical monuments and newly built objects. They appreciated the methods of objects conservation as well as various protective structures for preservation of objects and museum expositions.
The experts paid special attention to the protective structure above the Khan’s Palace, its modern unique conservation methods and offered to establish an experimental and educational platform there to study the history of development of conservation methods by specialists.
After the meeting, the experts shared their impressions about their visit to Tatarstan.
On 6 December speaking at a regional meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the regional Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector Marat Ayzatullin reported about progress in implementation of the of multi-apartment houses capital overhaul programme.
On 5 December, congratulating volunteers with the International Volunteers Day, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Leyla Fazleeva wrote in her address: “
Your boundless kindness, sincere desire to help others and active civic position deserve special recognition and deep gratitude. There are over 5,000 volunteer associations operating successfully in Tatarstan, with a total membership of over 220,000 caring people of all ages and professions. Every year the contribution of volunteers into public life of the republic becomes more noticeable.
On 4 December Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Gafarov, who is the Chief of Staff of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic, took part in a strategic session on the establishment of an inter-university campus in the republic being held at the Kazan Aircraft University on 4-6 December with participation of more than 100 people and more than 40 experts in politics, economy, science, education and industry from all over Russia.
On 1 December Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in N.I. Lobachevsky Prize and Medal Award Ceremony held in Kazan Federal University and handed in the award to the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chief Researcher of the St. Petersburg Department of Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Ivanov who was awarded for the outstanding achievements in fundamental and applied mathematics.
