On 17 March in the Government House of the republic Tatarstan First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Nigmatullin held a meeting of the Regional commission of Prevention and Liquidation of Emergencies and ensuring fire safety, where its participant discussed issues of safe passing through the flooding period and fire hazard season.
Having said that under unfavourable scenario 218 settlements with 5 700 residential houses can be flooded, Rustam Nigmatullin stated: “In case the above mentioned forecast comes true – and it is already becoming true- we propose municipalities to introduce a high alert mode and if necessary to move to the emergency regime immediately.”
The head of the Directorate on Hydrometeorology and the Environmental Monitoring for the republic Sergey Zakharov informed the meeting about the spring weather forecast and the Head of the Chief Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for Tatarstan Irek Kadamov reported that more than 750m rubles have been allocated to the flooding protection. He also told about work done in the republic for flooding prevention
The Deputy Head of the Chief Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for Tatarstan Maksim Truschin reported about measures taken while preparing for the fire hazard season including measures for organizing more than 12 thousand staff and 4 636 machinery units.
In conclusion Rustam Nigmatullin asked to take comprehensive measures in all preparatory events. “The heads of municipalities must also check the amount of financial and material resources, the workability of all alert devices in zones prone to flooding and wild fires,” he added.
