4648 road accidents have been registered in Tatarstan for 10 months of 2008

Rustam Minnikhanov held videoconference session in RT Cabinet. It was devoted to realization of RT President Order № PO-610 dated 14.11.2007 “Additional measures to provide road safety in Tatarstan”. All municipal districts of republic took part in the meeting.
Asgat Safarov, Head of RT Ministry of Interior informed that more than 7,5 thousand people died in road accidents during last 10 years in republic; 67 thousand people have been injured.
According to RT Prime Minister it’s necessary to combine all efforts of ministries and departments. The target program “Increase of road safety in Tatarstan for 2008-2010” is being realized in republic. He also underlined that 2009 will be devoted to development of road construction in accordance with RT President Order.
In the first place, Rustam Minnikhanov offered to pay more attention to development of complex automated monitoring bus communication system (intermunicipal transportation, school buses, e.t.c.). In the second place should be the quality of city drivers’ training. RT Prime Minister supposes that it’s necessary to carry out special programs in order to check the knowledge of traffic rules. Moreover, he pointed out the organization of operative first medical aid in road accidents.
Asgat Safarov, RT Minister of Interior offered to enlarge the number of employees to provide road safety and purchase additional equipment. Republic needs 1 billion RUR to realize the set tasks.
Ildus Faskhutdinov, RT Minister of Transport and Road Construction, Rafis Khabibullin, RT Minister of Civil Defence and Emergency Situations, Airat Farrakhov, RT Minister of Health Care, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan also reported on the situation.
On 9 May Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in a ceremony of laying flowers to the monument “The victorious soldier” dedicated to the celebrations of the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WW II) 1941-1945 and held at Arsk cemetery in Kazan.
On 8 May, speaking at a meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the Acting Chairman of the State Council of the republic Marat Akhmetov and the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Marat Ayzatullin reported that capital overhaul of social facilities is in full swing in the republic with 170 educational facilities having been included into regional and federal programmes.
On 4 May at a briefing held in the Tatarstan Government House it was told that currently there are 92 combat veterans, the last witnesses of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) of 1941-1945, living in the republic. The briefing also informed about veterans’ support measures and how the republic is planning to celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva told that names of 353 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tatarstan “ are immortalized in street names, on memorials, in monuments and squares and, of course, in our memory”. “The Victory Day is the day of memory, mourning and joy. It is the event which today should be clearly understandable to all young people and younger generation of Tatarstan,” she said.
