On 3 January on the errand from the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, who is the First Deputy Chairman of the Commission of prevention and elimination of emergency situations and ensuring fire safety of the republic , held an urgent meeting of the Commission which discussed readiness of forces and means to ensure security during the New Year and Christmas holidays.
He said that forecasters predict worsening weather conditions in the next two days and added that the meeting will discuss issues of comprehensive public safety during the New Year and Christmas holidays, including those in the event of deteriorating weather conditions.
The head of the Hydrometeorological Centre of the Directorate on hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring of the republic Feliks Gogol told about worsening weather conditions such as snowstorm, reduction of visibility to 500 meters or less, ice and snow drifts expected in the republic on 4 January, while the regional Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector Marat Ayzatullin informed about having organized 24-hour work of the dispatch service which carries out continuous monitoring of emergency situations and their elimination.
Marat Ayzatullin also said that special attention is paid to providing heat supply to apartment buildings and social facilities during the holidays as well as during the whole heating season and informed that there have been 2,063 accidents since the beginning of the current heating season.
He also informed about measures taken to prevent and eliminate consequences of emergency situations and to ensure trouble-free operation of fuel and energy complex and housing and communal services facilities.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Road Economy of the republic Ranis Fayzullin reported about the readiness of the road transport complex of the republic to operate in difficult weather conditions and machinery and anti-ice materials prepared for these purposes.
Aleksey Pesoshin called on all responsible officials to continuously monitor the situation and, if necessary, ensure timely dissemination of operational information to the authorities of regional emergencies centers.
Earlier the State Traffic Inspection for Tatarstan recommended drivers to avoid long trips due to adverse weather condition and informed that travelling restrictions on vehicles may be introduced if the road situation worsens which has already been done in Saratov and Samara regions.
