On March 12 Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev and former head of Majlis of Crimean Tatars, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mustafa Dzhemilev discussed current situation in Ukraine and Crimea.
Many Crimean Tatars consider Mustafa Dzhemilev, who headed Majlis in 1991-2013 to be national leader. Today he visited Moscow. Before that he had discussed current situation in Crimea with Vladimir Putin by the telephone.
Mintimer Shaimiev told journalists that Mustafa Dzhemilev and Vladimir Putin had a meaningful and long conversation.
“For sure, Mustafa Dzhemilev has his own opinion, because he is a sitting deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, and he worries about integrity of Ukraine, and what will happen after the referendum. In general, we do not want Crimean Tatars to take the fall in this situation. We have to stay calm. It is easier to say than to do, but anyway it is important to make their rights real in new status.
We had a sincere and trustworthy conversation, we understand each other very well. Mustafa Dzhemilev was satisfied with our conversation.
Recently the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea made a decision concerning expansion of authorities and status of Crimean Tatars, their representation in government authorities and parliament. I should say that Mustafa Dzhemilev is positive about it.” Mintimer Shaimiev said.
