Tatarstan government to join international action “Earth Hour-2009”

On March 28 Tatarstan government joined an international action “ Earth Hour -2009”. Within the action millions of people throughout the Earth switched off the light for 1 hour to show they are worrying about future of a planet. Illumination of RT Cabinet was turned off at 20.30.

“Earth Hour” is a global action of World Wide Fund. The aim of the action is attraction of peoples’ attention to the problem of environmental pollution. Everyone in the world may show his anxiety over a problem of dangerous climate change and “vote” for healthy planet by a symbolic action – switching off the light.

“Earth Hour” is a conspicuous symbol of public call-up for decisive measures to maintenance of healthy climate and decrease of greenhouse gas emissions. The idea of action belongs to World Wide Fund in Australia. Action “Earth Hour” was held in Sydney (Australia) in March, 2007 for the first time. In March, 2008, the action became a global one. More than 50 mln. people in more than 270 cities of 35 countries turned off light for an hour.
