Rustam Minnikhanov: Potential of cooperation between Tatarstan and Kaliningrad region is huge

On May 11, answering questions of media agencies, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that the plan of actions on realization of cooperation agreement between Tatarstan and Kaliningrad region that was signed in Kaliningrad will enable revealing the potential of relations between two regions.

“The potential is really huge. We want to supply our engineering produce, including KAMAZ cars and school buses. Cooperation in the sphere of tourism and health care is not well developed yet,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

Tatarstan President continued that cooperation may also be developed with “Sodruzhestvo” company, a resident of Special Economic Zone of Kaliningrad region.

“Kazan and Kaliningrad are main cities to host World Football Cup 2018, one of the most important international events in sport world. Kaliningrad as well as other cities has to prepare sports infrastructure. We are willing to help in designing and construction of objects, and consulting. It is one of our cooperation areas,” Rustam Minnikhanov noted.

Rustam Minnikhanov also mentioned IT industry as a prospective area. He believes that both regions have serious opportunities in this sphere.
Governor of Kaliningrad region Nikolay Tsukanov, in his turn, said that the Agreement on cooperation between Tatarstan and Kaliningrad region was signed in 2003, and now new impetus should be given to relationships.

“A lot of changes have taken place for 11 years. We should reload our relations. We were so impressed by high level of organization of the World Universiade in Kazan. We need such knowledge in our region. I addressed Rustam Nurgalievich with request to send Tatarstan design institutes for participation in our contests,” Nikolay Tsukanov said.

Summing up, he suggested making Kaliningrad region a place for promoting Tatarstan produce at the European market.
