27 June 2014, Friday
On June 27, a 4G (LTE) network operated by OAO “Tattelecom” at a band of 1800 MHz has been launched in Kazan. The ceremony took place within the framework of a festival “Young and Successful” held near the Kazan Arena stadium.
Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolay Nikiforov, Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov, Tatarstan Minister of Information and Communication Roman Shaikhutdinov Roman Shaikhutdinov, Member of Tatarstan State Council, Diretor General of OAO “Tattelecom” Lutfulla Shafigullin took part in the event.
“I am happy that Kazan has become a symbol of the most state-of-the-art communication technologies,” Nikolay Nikiforov said. “In 2010, it was the place where Russia’s first 4G communication appeared. It is Important that today, in 2014, we are launching the totally new communication that was impossible half a year or a year ago. It is important to me that Kazan leads the country again.”
According to him, the launch of the network means even more high-speed mobile internet in telephones, smart phones and tablet PCs for Kazan and Tatarstan residents.
Ildar Khalikov is sure that the launch of the 4G (LTE) network is a significant and unique event. “Due to this fact, 4G communication will become available in a great many cities and regional centres in Tatarstan. Their residents will have an opportunity to have the same communication quality as the residents of Kazan and republic’s larger cities,” Ildar Khalikov pointed out.
It should be noted that the LTE mobile data transmission network operated by Tattelecom uses the 1,800 MHz range for the first time in Russia. This can significantly increase the range of signal penetration through walls and into buildings without losing the internet connection speed by a subscriber.
In 2014-2015, the company plans to put into operation more than 1,000 base stations in Tatarstan, thus providing its bigger part with the quality LTE coverage. The LTE network has so far been launched in over 30 cities and municipal regions. Almost all 4G base stations are connected with the use of the latest technologies, fibre-optic lines, which guarantees network reliability, broad coverage, high capacity and high data transmission speed.
