Tatarstan leadership extends its condolences on the death of USSR Hero Sabir Akhtyamov

On July 20, Tatarstan leadership extended its condolences on the death of USSR Hero Sabir Akhtyamov.

“Russia and Tatarstan have suffered bereavement - USSR Hero Sabir Akhtyamov died at the age of 88. His life was the epitome of loyalty and love to the Fatherland, fortitude and self-sacrifice, unparalleled courage and valor. The Ahtyamov’s fate reflected the fate of the country and its heroic generation of winners. We bow our heads before the Hero. We will always cherish the memory of  Sabir Akhtyamov in our hearts,” the obituary says in particular.

Sabir Akhtyamov was born on 15 June 1926 in Kukmor Region in a large family of a blacksmith. He completed seven grades of school and worked as a blacksmith in a collective farm. In summer of 1943, his father’s death notice (in the military actions of the WW II) arrived and in November of the same year he joined the Red Army.

After taking a course, he became an anti-tank rifleman. Since June of 1944, Sabir Akhtyamov was at the frontline as an antitank rifle shooter. Sabir Akhtyamov took part in the liberation of Belorussia, the Baltic States, and battles in Germany.

By the Decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, soldier Sabir Akhtyamov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin and medal "Gold Star" for the exemplary performance of command assignments and displaying courage and heroism.

In the battle near the village of Adlovinen (East Prussia) Akhtyamov from the attic of a house knocked out two Panther tanks. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner for this feat. A short time later, he was wounded.

Sabir Akhtyamov took part in the historical Victory Parade on Red Square in Moscow on June 24, 1945. His name is immortalized in the Hall of Heroes of the memorial complex at Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow.

He was later awarded the Order of Great Patriotic War 1st Class and the Red Star Order.

Sabir Akhtyamov was a member of the Regional Committee of Veterans of War and Military Service, public association “Heroes of Tatarstan” and Council of Veterans of Tatarstan Interior Ministry.
