On July 21, civil funeral rites for Hero of the Soviet Union Sabir Akhtyamov took place at Menzhynsky culture centre.
Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev, Chairman of State Council Farid Mukhametshin, First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksei Pesoshin, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Chairman of regional public organization of war and military service veterans Major-general Akhat Yulashev, Chairman of public organization “Heroes of Tatarstan” Ildus Mastyukov, hero of the Soviet Union Boris Kuznetsov, heads of ministries and agencies, relatives, colleagues and friends came to pay their last respects to Sabir Akhtyamov.
“It is a very hard day. We are paying our last respects to Sabir Akhtyamovich, a legendary person, who showed the example to our republic and the whole country. A man from a village in Kukmor region went to war, showed heroism and continued serving in the Armed Forces. He came back to his Motherland, Kazan, in 1991. We will remember Sabir Akhtyamov and educate our youth following his example,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev, in his turn, said: “Heroes are passing away. We should keep memories about them. Sabir Akhtyamov is our hero. We will always cherish the memory of him. Rest in peace and let his spirit go to heaven. Thank you for coming here today.”
Sabir Akhtyamov died on July 20 at the age of 88. He will be buried in his native village in Kukmor region.
On 8 May, speaking at a meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the Acting Chairman of the State Council of the republic Marat Akhmetov and the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Marat Ayzatullin reported that capital overhaul of social facilities is in full swing in the republic with 170 educational facilities having been included into regional and federal programmes.
On 4 May at a briefing held in the Tatarstan Government House it was told that currently there are 92 combat veterans, the last witnesses of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) of 1941-1945, living in the republic. The briefing also informed about veterans’ support measures and how the republic is planning to celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva told that names of 353 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tatarstan “ are immortalized in street names, on memorials, in monuments and squares and, of course, in our memory”. “The Victory Day is the day of memory, mourning and joy. It is the event which today should be clearly understandable to all young people and younger generation of Tatarstan,” she said.

On 24 April in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin held a joint meeting the Council for Enforcement of Legislation of Languages of Tatarstan and the organizational committee for celebrations of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay which summarized results of work of the regional law enforcement on official languages of the republic and considered progress of the implementation of the plan of main events for preparation and celebration of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay .
