On August 27, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in laying a capsule at the construction site of a new indoor ice rink with artificial ice in the 26th micro district of Kazan (89 a, Chuikova St.).
In general, the project presupposes the construction of the complex, which will comprise an ice hockey pitch, a gym and auxiliary facilities. With a total floor space of 5,800 m2, the number of seats in the stand is designed for 200 people. As for the ice rink, it will have a capacity of 100 people per shift for hockey tournaments, 50 people per shift for training periods and 450 people per shift for public skating.
It is expected that the construction of the ice complex will give an additional impetus not only to the development of hockey and figure skating, but open up new opportunities for children's sports and high performance sport, and attract more Kazan citizens to take part in regular sports activities.
This ice site has its own prehistory. The 2nd All-Russian hockey festival among amateur teams was held on May 2-11, 2013 in Sochi. 124 hockey teams from 56 Russian regions, including 6 teams from Tatarstan took part in the event. Following the results of the tournament, the Kazan Dragons became winners of the Champions League division. The prize of 100 million roubles allocated from the federal budget to build an ice rink was awarded to the region that won the All-Russian hockey festival among amateur teams.
Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, who took part in the ceremony, said: "This is a significant event for us. We are laying the foundation of the 10th hockey palace and 12th ice rink in Kazan. I want to thank everyone who made this victory.” He stressed that, thanks to the support of Rustam Minnikhanov the number of sports facilities is constantly increasing in the republic, offering more opportunities to Kazan citizens to go in for sports and lead a healthy lifestyle.
"Our new sports victory gave us this ice palace. This is a very prestigious, that our team showed such a result and the Russian President made such a decision. This is the 10th palace in Kazan and 40th in the republic. This shows the popularity of hockey, which is played by adults, young people and children,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
According to the President of Tatarstan, this new facility, like many others, will be in demand among citizens.
