3 June 2009, Wednesday

Tatarstan Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov said at meeting with “Nizhnekamskneftehim” shareholders that joint-stock company “Nizhnekamskneftehim” is one of the biggest enterprises in Russia, the so-called “leader” in petrochemical branch. In spite of difficulties connected with economic crisis the company continues working and developing efficiently. He also reminded that 2008 was rather successful for many economic sectors but at year-end the situation changed completely. Regions which had export-oriented companies were aimed at world markets. They suffered most of all, including the Republic of Tatarstan.

Prime Minister also said that notwithstanding such difficult conditions gross regional product of republic made 930 bln. roubles with growth for 7,1 %.

Petrochemical sector contributed into these rates. “Tatarstan is a leader in Russian petrochemical sector. Our republic is a leading player in Russian market of polyethylene, polypropylene and tires production”, - Rustam Minnikhanov said. He reminded that “Nizhnekamskneftehim” produces more than 70 % of Russian polystyrene plastic.

Tatarstan Prime Minister considers that the company is not guilty of exchange difference, it still works profitably. At the same time the program intended for “Nizhnekamskneftehim” has been completely implemented.

“Nizhnekamskneftehim” is the biggest taxpayer providing jobs for 20 000 employees and making the development of small and medium-size enterprises possible (polymers processing).

Tatarstan Prime Minister said it is planned to process not less than 30 % of polymers produced in republic thus planning the foundation of technopark in Kamskie Polyany close to “Nizhnekamskneftehim”. It will provide new working places, development of small business, and increase of polymers processing volume.

“Petrochemistry is a big level of power and heat consumption which effects the increase of production cost”, - Rustam Minnikhanov said.
