Rustam Minnikhanov takes part in session of Russia-Singapore Inter-Governmental Commission

On September 10, in Singapore, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the fifth session of the Russia-Singapore Inter-Governmental Commission. The session was co-chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mr. Shuvalov and Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Finance of the Republic of Singapore Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Opening the session, Tharman Shanmugaratnam noted growing relations between Singapore and Russian regions, especially highlighting Tatarstan that he personally visited last year. “The local leaders' ambition to develop and cooperate impressed me greatly,” Shanmugaratnam admitted.
He told about his visit to the Innopolis construction site in summer of 2013 and expressed his hope that Singaporean investors will take an active part in the implementation of this promising project.
Tharman Shanmugaratnam said that in addition to financial and investment sector, Russia and Singapore are developing their cooperation in the healthcare and social service fields.
Igor Shuvalov, in his turn, thanked the Singapore party for arranging the session of the Intergovernmental Commission. Shuvalov also noted the successful and long-term experience of cooperation between Tatarstan and Singapore, wishing other Russian regions to strive for the same results.
According to Shuvalov, at this precise moment, when European countries imposed their sanctions against Russia, it is time to intensify trade and economic relations with the countries of the Asia-Pacific Region.
After the session, a number of agreements were signed. In particular, an agreement on cooperation between the Innopolis University and National University of Singapore was signed in the presence of First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mr. Shuvalov and Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Finance of the Republic of Singapore Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
On 8 May, speaking at a meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the Acting Chairman of the State Council of the republic Marat Akhmetov and the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Marat Ayzatullin reported that capital overhaul of social facilities is in full swing in the republic with 170 educational facilities having been included into regional and federal programmes.
On 4 May at a briefing held in the Tatarstan Government House it was told that currently there are 92 combat veterans, the last witnesses of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) of 1941-1945, living in the republic. The briefing also informed about veterans’ support measures and how the republic is planning to celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva told that names of 353 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tatarstan “ are immortalized in street names, on memorials, in monuments and squares and, of course, in our memory”. “The Victory Day is the day of memory, mourning and joy. It is the event which today should be clearly understandable to all young people and younger generation of Tatarstan,” she said.

On 24 April in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin held a joint meeting the Council for Enforcement of Legislation of Languages of Tatarstan and the organizational committee for celebrations of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay which summarized results of work of the regional law enforcement on official languages of the republic and considered progress of the implementation of the plan of main events for preparation and celebration of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay .
