Tatarstan President: “Our local self-government system has proved its efficiency”

On December 18, at a session of the District consulting council on developing local self-government under Russian Presidential Envoy in Volga Federal District, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that local self-government system of the republic has proved its efficiency.
Two main issues were discussed at the session, - activity of municipalities in housing and utilities sector, land improvement and road construction, and improvement of local self-government system due to changes in the Budget Code of the Russian Federation and Federal Law “On general principles of local self-government organization”.
Opening the session, Russian Presidential Envoy in Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich stated that the discussed issues are very topical. As for housing and utilities sector, citizens are mostly concerned about closedness of taken measures, their inability to influence these processes, and increase in tariffs for housing and utilities services.
Mikhail Babich noted that under leadership of Rustam Minnikhanov, the republic showed that even under tough economic situation successful work of municipalities is possible.
Rustam Minnikhanov, in his turn, noted that holding the session in Kazan is a good opportunity for regions to share their experience and discuss proposals for future work. Minnikhanov noted high level of development of the republic due to 1000th anniversary celebrations and Universiade. He also noted that Tatarstan has gained wide experience in local self-government, and there are 956 municipalities in the republic. Also, a number of federal and regional programmes aimed at solving municipal problems are implemented in the republic.
Minnikhanov also mentioned grants provided for supporting townships in Tatarstan.
As for housing and utilities sector, the president said that this sphere should always be controlled by regional and municipal authorities.
On 18 May ay the CIPR conference in Nizhniy Nogorod the Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Roman Shaykhutdinov, the Rector of the Innopolis University Aleksandr Gasnikpov and the Vice-rector of the University Yevgeny Bobrov will take part at round tables session of the conference.
Experts will discuss the role of Tatarstan and Innopolis as one of the key technological centers of the country and how regional innovative platforms help to solve tasks of the whole Russian industry. A special emphasis will be placed on the digital transformation of the oil and gas sector and how large clusters and scientific and technological centers are becoming drivers of industry change.
On 16 May, speaking at a meeting in the Government House of the republic held by the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin with participation of the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the republic Marat Zyabbarov reported that the sowing of spring crops is in full swing in the republic with 1m 38 thousand hectares or 61 per cent of the planned have been sown.
On May 14, on the sidelines of the XVII International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic World: KazanForum”, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and Head of the Federal Service for Accreditation Dmitry Volvach signed an agreement on interaction and cooperation in the development of the halal industry.
On May 14, Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda, who arrived on a working visit in Kazan to take part in the events of the XVII International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic World: KazanForum”, was met by Prime Minister of the republic Aleksey Pesoshin and other officials at the Kazan International Airport.
