Six regions under threat of flooding during spring high water period in Tatarstan

On March 24, speaking at a briefing at Tatarstan Government House on measures aimed to ensure trouble-free passage of spring floodwater in Tatarstan, Deputy Minister of Defence and Emergency Situations of the republic Nikolay Surzhko said that six regions of Tatarstan are at risk of being flooded during the upcoming high water period.
“Based on reports made by meteorologists, we can say that the most vulnerable are the areas with the largest amounts of snow,” he said. “Within this in view, I ask heads of Zelenodolsk, Arsk, Aksubayev, Pestretsy and Chistopol municipalities, as well as Kazan, to be aware that your territories are in the risk zone.”
The official called on municipality chiefs to thoroughly assess readiness of housing and utilities, road, energy and epidemiology services for the high water period.
“The authorities need to be fully prepared for emergencies and accidents,” Surzhko commented, remarking the municipalities need to complete anti-flood measures, including preparation of watercraft, engineering, road construction and others requisite types of equipment, as soon as possible.
Besides, preventive inspections of fire safety facilities in populated areas and providing watercraft for the settlements that could be cut off by the flood are required. “I ask you to personally supervise these measures being implemented,” he told the municipality heads.
Surzhko concluded that officials need to talk to people using all available means, including mass media, personal meetings, door-to-door visits, and others.
On 15 December, speaking at a meeting of the competition committee of the regional public competition “The Manager of the Year” about its results in 2025, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin said that the list of 155 participants (nominees), who are heads of enterprises and organizations from various industries and sectors of the economy, for the competition was formed based on recommendations from regional ministries and departments, city and district municipalities, employers' associations and the Federation of Trade Unions of the republic.
On 6 December speaking at a regional meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the regional Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector Marat Ayzatullin reported about progress in implementation of the of multi-apartment houses capital overhaul programme.
On 5 December, congratulating volunteers with the International Volunteers Day, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Leyla Fazleeva wrote in her address: “
Your boundless kindness, sincere desire to help others and active civic position deserve special recognition and deep gratitude. There are over 5,000 volunteer associations operating successfully in Tatarstan, with a total membership of over 220,000 caring people of all ages and professions. Every year the contribution of volunteers into public life of the republic becomes more noticeable.
On 4 December Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Gafarov, who is the Chief of Staff of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic, took part in a strategic session on the establishment of an inter-university campus in the republic being held at the Kazan Aircraft University on 4-6 December with participation of more than 100 people and more than 40 experts in politics, economy, science, education and industry from all over Russia.
