Results of sociological polls on corruption in Tatarstan presented in House of RT Government

RT Minister of economy Marat Safiullin told about results of sociological survey on corruption which has been carried out in Tatarstan at briefing in RT Cabinet. According to results initiators of bribery are citizens themselves. The size of bribes is growing annually.

Marat Safiullin said that almost all international agencies exploring corruption, state that in Russia the problem becomes more and more urgent. To withstand this mischief in Tatarstan sociological polls are being carried out, citizens’ opinion is being analyzed. Such surveys have been conducted by assignment of RT President in 2005, 2007 and 2009 years.

Monitoring of public opinion about corruption has been done in accordance with Strategy of anti-corruption policy of RT approved by RT President Decree. By and large 2187 respondents were polled in 2009. Sociological polls were held in November-December 2009 by Centre of perspective economic research of RT Academy of sciences jointly with Tatarstanstat (territorial body of federal state statistics service on RT).

In citizens’ opinion the main manifestations of corruption in Tatarstan are bribery, use of official status for realizing personal goals and blackmail. On the whole manifestations of bribery have decreased, but the size of bribes vice versa. .

Entrepreneurs consider that high taxes, economic instability, hard competition, corruption of officials and representatives of controlling bodies prevent business developing in Tatarstan. They also suppose that in order to localize corruption it is necessary to toughen legislation, improve legal competence of population and efficiency of control for budget funds. “It is essential so that phenomenon of corruption will not become element of culture and business ethics”, - Marat Safiullin stressed.
