Rustam Minnikhanov visits the oldest educational institution of Dublin -"Trinity College"

On June 30, 2015 during his two-day working trip to Ireland the Interim President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov visited "Trinity College'' in Dublin. This educational institution was founded in 1592 by the Queen Elizabeth l and it's the part of the Dublin University. ''Trinity College'' (TCD) and the Dublin University are the oldest and the most prestigious higher educational institutions of Ireland. College - is one of the seven oldest universities of English-speaking world and the one that is located outside Great Britain.

''Trinity College" placed in downtown of Dublin occupies the area of one hundred and ninty thousand square kilometers with old and new buildings located around big courtyards (known as ''squares'') and two playgrounds.

The college includes CRANN - Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices. Mr. President was informed of the educational institution structure, visited the oldest ''Trinity College'' library halls with ancient publications including the original of one of the oldest books in the world.

During the excursion in the library Mr. Minnikhanov asked about the amount of books stored there and a possibility of its digitization. In the book of honored guests Mr. President left a comment wishing future success and talented students for the ''Trinity College''.

“I am very impressed with what I saw in one of the oldest educational institutions of Ireland, - wrote Minnikhanov - One can find best traditions of classic university education here along with dynamic development and implementation of innovations and modern education methods.”

Hereafter, Mr. Minnikhanov paid a visit to the Centre of Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices (CRANN). A presentation was given by a headmaster of CRANN, Professor Stefano Sanvito. He said that there are two hundred graduated students, one hundred and fifty scientists, fifteen engineers and technicians and others currently working at CRANN. The centre line of business includes 2D materials, nanocomposites, materials for medicine, (tissue and bones substitutes), materials and photonic devices, materials modelling and etc. CRANN has been closely collaborating with Intel for ten years.

As a startup example Stefano Sanvino presented two developed projects - ''Distant monitoring of distribution substation'' and a Cellix company project for hi-tech medical equipment development. The first project was done by the school of physics, the second - by the school of physics and medicine.
