Rustam Minnikhanov: We started implementing the programme “Parks and squares” first, but water conservation zones are of great value, too

On July 7, Interim President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, heads of other towns of the republic, representatives of legislative and executive authorities, businessmen, leading Russian and international experts in urban planning, economics and sociology took part in the second series of urban conferences "The Cities and Territories Tomorrow: Tools for Positive Change" opened in Kazan (Korston hotel).
The conferences have already been held in Khabarovsk and Samara, and will be held in Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg later on. Moscow international urban forum will summarize the conferences in autumn.
The conference is organized by the Center of urban studies “Skolkovo”, Federal center for project finance under the auspices of Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry. OAO “Bank of Moscow” has been the strategic partner of the conference for two years.
Andrei Sharonov, rector of the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO was the moderator of a plenary session “Water in a modern city” held during the conference.
Participants of the session discussed rational use of Volga and Kazanka riverfront, creation of a new embankment and development of common standards to improve the embankment areas.
Rustam Minnikhanov noted that water area occupies 8 per cent of the republic’s total territory, and river banks are often used inefficiently.
The following roundtables will be held during the conference: “Public infrastructure: development in conditions of budget deficit”, “Innopolis: First city in the 21st-century Russia”, and the session “Public participation in urban management”.

On May 26, speaking at a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic held in a videoconference mode with participation of all municipal regions of Tatarstan and focused on events scheduled for June 1, International Children’s Day, as well as the implementation of the “Summer in Tatarstan” programme, Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva appealed that parents should closely supervise their children during recreational activities near water in order to prevent accidents.
On 18 May ay the CIPR conference in Nizhniy Nogorod the Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Roman Shaykhutdinov, the Rector of the Innopolis University Aleksandr Gasnikpov and the Vice-rector of the University Yevgeny Bobrov will take part at round tables session of the conference.
Experts will discuss the role of Tatarstan and Innopolis as one of the key technological centers of the country and how regional innovative platforms help to solve tasks of the whole Russian industry. A special emphasis will be placed on the digital transformation of the oil and gas sector and how large clusters and scientific and technological centers are becoming drivers of industry change.
On 16 May, speaking at a meeting in the Government House of the republic held by the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin with participation of the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the republic Marat Zyabbarov reported that the sowing of spring crops is in full swing in the republic with 1m 38 thousand hectares or 61 per cent of the planned have been sown.
On May 14, on the sidelines of the XVII International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic World: KazanForum”, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and Head of the Federal Service for Accreditation Dmitry Volvach signed an agreement on interaction and cooperation in the development of the halal industry.
