Rustam Minnikhanov: Mechanical engineering plays distinct role in development of Tatarstan economy

On December 2, speaking at third meeting of the Coordinating Council of Tatartsan Engineering Enterprises, which has become the key event of specialized exhibitions opened in Kazan recently, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that combining efforts of business, public organizations and university research contribute to the implementation of competitive and efficient production technologies.

The Coordinating Council of Tatarstan Engineering Enterprises, which involves key enterprises of the industry, was established in accordance with the decree of Tatarstan Cabinet of Ministers in March 2013.

According to Minnikhanov, today Tatarstan is one of the leading industrial regions of Russia, with the volume of the regional industrial production amounting to more than $ 1.5 trillion rubles, producing 28 million tonnes of oil, 24,5 thousand of cargo and 18.5 thousand private vehicles, more than 11 thousand tires, 537 thousand synthetic rubber, 17 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.

"Engineering complex plays a special role in the development of Tatarstan economy, determining the dynamics and quality of industrial growth, influencing the infrastructure and strengthening national defense. Scientific and technical development, as well as manufacturing of competitive high-tech products, which meets today's market demand, are the priorities in this sector,"  he said.

Tatarstan President told the audience that the engineering complex of Tatarstan includes 150 large and medium-sized enterprises, which employ more than 140 thousand people.

Minnikhanov said that he believes that the modernization of the engineering industry requires modern technology and experts. In this regard, he has pointed out engineering professions training as necessary to enterprises. "The WorldSkills Championship is a vital necessity for the republic. The competition will reveal a lot of young talents to be invited to our leading enterprises," he concluded.
