Rustam Minnikhanov: Interests of every person should be unconditional priority in work of judges

On February 19, at the 11th conference of judges of the Republic of Tatarstan at Korston hotel, Kazan, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that interests of every person should be an unconditional priority in the work of judges.

Making a keynote report, Chairman of the regional Supreme Court Ilgiz Gilazov noted the increase in appeals to regional courts in 2015.

According to Ilgiz Gilazov, 815,000 cases have been processed, 16.5 thousand people have been brought to trial.  About 60 per cent of crimes were committed by people without constant source of income, 25 per cent of convicts were with criminal background, and every third crime was committed under the influence of alcohol.  

In his speech Rustam Minnikhanov said that counteraction of extremism and terrorism is one of priority areas in the work of government authorities. Last year law enforcement agencies revealed a series of high profile cases, and dozens of people were brought to justice for extremist crimes. The verdicts were delivered against 29 leaders of organized criminal groups.

Rustam Minnikhanov continued that legislative amendments that were introduced last year helped to increase the efficiency of measures on counteracting illegal gambling.  Moreover, in the Year of water conservation areas, the president mentioned full compliance with legislative requirements in the sphere of environmental protection.

Summing up, Rustam Minnikhanov focused on issues of personnel policy and reminded about forthcoming elections of deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
