JSC Tatneft and the German Preiss Daimler Group have officially put into operation the P-D Tatneft Alabuga Fibre Glass joint venture. The plant, unique for Russia, will manufacture import-substituting products, fibre glass and its derivatives.
Attendees at the solemn launch ceremony were Russia economy minister Elvira Nabiullina, Tatarstan president Rustam Minnikhanov, Saxony deputy prime minister, minister of ecoomy, labour and transport Sven Morlock, Tatneft general director Shafgat Takhautdinov and P-D Group president Jurgen Preiss Daimler.
They pushed the symbolic button, after which an official announcement of the new plant’s operation was made. The joint venture was set up 2 years ago by Tatneft and P-D Glasseiden GmbH Oschatz, Preiss Daimler subsidiary, on a fifty-fifty basis.
The high profile guests toured the plant’s workshops. The facility uses newest high-technology equipment, which guarantees high quality products. The products are intended for export. The facility is to provide 300 jobs for residents in Yelabuga and Naberezhnye Chelny. The project has been praised by the Russian Economic Development Ministry.
The total investment is estimated at 84.5 million euros. Preiss Daimler Group organised turn-key production with personnel training, provided its brand and know-how, production equipment, glass furnace fireproof material resistant to the temperature of 1,400-1,500 degrees with constant burning for 8 years.
The new facility is to manufacture about 21 thousand tonnes of high-quality fibre glass products a year, to be used in the construction, automotive, ship building, electric and other industries.
The new plant’s advantages include the possibility to use local raw materials, a favourable geographic location, proximity of large petrochemical and auto making facilities, and a well-developed infrastructure. Operation inside the Alabuga special economic zone provides for substantial tax benefits.
